Who is Zero Skateboards?
Zero is a true American Skateboard company. Founded in 1996 Zero Skateboard originally started as a clothing company. With founder Jamie Thomas still skating for Toy Machine, he soon left to become the first pro.
Jamie started out riding for a clothing company names Zero Sophisto. Just after he was picked up by the brand the Zero part of the name was dropped. After approaching, Andy Howell the owner of Sophisto, with the vision of starting a division of clothing called Zero. Andy thought it was a cool idea but didn’t have the means to back it. Taking the idea further and after talking to Tod Swank the Zero brand was born with “Toy Machine Zero Division” inside the labels.
The brand progressed quickly and in 2003 Jamie opened a Wood Shop in Tijuana, Mexico. The purpose of the plant was to manufacture all of Black Box Distributions brands skateboard decks.
In 2014 Zero Skateboards transitioned to Dwindle. Dwindle, who was responsible for Enjoi, Blind, Almost, Darkstar at the time welcomed Zero with open arms. Zero’s employees remained independent and focused on the team, creative aspects, and marketing.
In 1996 Jamie released Welcome To Hell with Toy Machine. The video was received really well. It was Jamie’s initial vision on how he felt Zero should be presented. This initial reaction was encouraging. Inspired by classic rock figures like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and the Misfits to name a few really gave Zero the Punk Rock vibe Jamie was after.
Zero Skateboard Decks
Formed in the traditional 7ply construction Zero Skateboard Decks are Traditional to skateboarding just like the brand. The European and UK Zero Decks are pressed at the Dwindle Factory and the American line in the BBS Californian Factory. To maintain quality and consistency the Zero Skateboard Decks are individually pressed.
Zero’s Decks feature a consistent range of team graphics. Single Skulls, Bold, and the Triple Skulls. These team skateboard decks feature through all drops in a small variation.
Pro decks from the team are also featured different artwork in each drop. Some from Jamie himself and others with collaborative artists.
The Zero Team
Now there is no chance a brand that's been established for as long as Zero won’t have a strong team to back it up.
With the return of Chris Cole in 2020, the Zero team is back to how it used to be. Cole briefly left Zero to spend time at Plan B and then float without a sponsor before getting back in touch with Jamie. Late in 2020 Zero brought the fans what they wanted! Chris Coles returns.
With a Pro team boasting names like:
Dane Burman, Tommy Sandoval, Chris Wimer, Forrest Edwards, and Jamie Thomas. It’s no wonder that they put out some of the most sought after VX filmed video parts. Zero released Damn it All in 2020 which is the most recent installment in the VX video projects.
Now one skater we’d like to make a point of mentioning is Dylan Jaeb. One of Instagram's favourite skaters. Dylan is part of Zero’s Amateur team and is one to watch going into 2021.
